Another Friday and another tag! This one I was nominated by my book blogging friend Fernanda of “The Wanderlust Reader.” This girl seriously reads a lot and it is so awesome to see what she is reading because she frequently shares her reactions mid-book on Twitter. She is very unique and I think you all should follow her if your not already! She is pretty awesome.
Then when I had this already done I got another nomination from another book blogging friend that I love! Danielle from Introverted Book Nerd tagged me! She is just as awesome as Fernanda as well! One of the things I remember instantly connecting with Danielle with was that she owns a kayak and likes to go on the river. This girl seriously is awesome and you should follow her as well and if you don’t well bump you! 🙂
Wow and they just kept coming in! I also got nominated by Sarah of “Book Hooked Nook” as well! Sarah is also one of my favorite people in the book blogging community. She has an awesome personality and attitude that is infectious and will bring a smile to your face any time you talk to her! Her “about” section states that she likes YA and romance, so if that is your super jam you should check out her blog, but even if it isn’t you should still check her out. Her posts are pretty much the best thing on earth, seriously GO READ IT!

1. If you could have any fictional character play you in a movie about your life, who would you pick and why?
I cannot think of any fictional character that I would want to play me in my life story because I can’t think of any representations of transgender individuals that fits for me. I can think of real life people, but I cannot think of anyone that would be appropriate in the fictional world because I haven’t read enough fictional accounts of similar stories to my own. I also cannot fathom placing a male or female character to represent me because that just plays into issues that are actually going on in Hollywood with transgender individuals playing key transgender roles in film and television. I know this is just a tag, but hey it is my truth!
2. What inspired the name of your blog?
I realized I wanted my site to be seen as more professional and I also wanted it to represent me, so what better way to do that then make it my own name? It also allows me to move around into whatever areas I may want to do in the future. It doesn’t make me relegated to any particular fit. If I move away eventually from books I would be able to do that, since it is still well me!
3. What’s a book or series that you loved but others seem to hate?
I have found that many people seem to hate James Patterson and I love “The Women’s Murder Club” series, so I guess that would be the closest that I would actually know and recognize. This is because I normally don’t care how others feel about what I like to read. This isn’t being mean either. I will listen to their perspective and understand it, but we are all readers. We are allowed to like what we like without being told it is wrong for this or that reason. We are allowed. I can’t emphasize that enough. Read whatever you want because I personally would rather have you reading then arguing.
4. Narnia or Hogwarts?
Narnia, I have never read the Harry Potter series and I just find Narnia to be more up my alley. I love the books in the series that I have read. I need to finish it out finally.
5. If you could only ever read books by one author, who would you choose and why?
Paulo Coelho, author of “Veronika Decides to Die” and “The Alchemist”, because his books tend to have a larger life theme. If I have to reread the same author I would rather have someone that I feel keeps teaching me something or reminds me of life then having an author that maybe had more books just so I can have more to choose from to read.
6. Controversial question: does pineapple have a rightful place on pizza?
YES! I love Hawaiian pizzas. There is no room for argument here. If you do want to start an argument read above (go read a book).
7. Audiobooks: yay or nay?
For me it’s a no. I just haven’t found myself able to get into them. Though I will be listening to some soon because there are some “Doctor Who” stories that are only told in audiobook format which I own. As a result, I will be listening soon. This will be my ultimate deciding moment, if I can’t listen to them I will not get audiobooks ever again.
8. A stranger approaches you and tells you that they can magically transport you to any fictional world. What do you do? Where do you go? TELL ME!
There is only one place I would ever go outside of the real world and that is Oz. I have read most of the books and I just would love to be in the fantasy world. I would visit all the locations (Emerald City check). I would visit important characters (Scarecrow, Tin Man, Ozma, all of them). After a few days though I would want to go home to my real life. I would just want it to be a vacation at most.
9. What’s the last book you gave a 5 stars and 1 star rating?
The last book I gave 5 stars to was “Feel Me Fall” by James Morris. I went to GoodReads to see if I have given any 1 star ratings on my account and I noticed I haven’t. The most recent 2 star rating though is “Paper Girls’ by Brian K. Vaughn which just wasn’t my type of read unfortunately. I can see others enjoying it though.
10. Not really a question but create a playlist with songs, which you hopefully like, that spell out your name!
Chandelier by Sia
Alive by Krewella
Save My Life by Pink
Spice Up Your Life by Spice Girls
I Ain’t Thry by Keyshia Cole
Even God by Charlotte Church
11. If you could be any mythical creature, which would you be?
Pegasus or Unicorn. I am unique and I feel like they are. They are also majestic and beautiful, which I want to be in my own life.
1. If you could live in any period and any place in time when and where would it be?
My philosophy on life is that you love where you are at in life. I wouldn’t go live in any other time period. We are put on this earth for a reason. We are here in this time period for a reason. Learn to love where you are and who you are. 🙂
2. What is the last book you hated and why?
The last “book” I hated was actually a graphic novel. I didn’t like “Paper Girls” by Brian K. Vaughn. I realized I am just not a huge sci-fi fan and this reeked of it. Also there was language utilized in a way that I felt was not very appropriate, regardless of the intention. It put me off because it was too quickly followed with a death of someone that would have fit into that wordage utilized. This made me VERY upset and just didn’t want to continue with it further as a result. I did finish it though (the first volume so far only though, not sure if I will read the second and third to see if it gets better).
3. What is your favorite book?
This last year it changed when I read “The Handmaid’s Tale” which quickly moved into my favorite book ever spot. This book mesmerized me with its strong writing style by Margaret Atwood, but its important messages. I am a social justice softie when it comes to books, so if it has this it will quickly move up onto my favorite books ever list.
4. What is something you wish people knew about you?
I am pretty open, so I am pretty sure some people wish I would shut up already about everything that has went down in my life. I wish I could express that this is just the very surface level of what I have dealt with in my life and I am here. I have survived. Just because I talk about it doesn’t mean I am trying to be Debbie Downer. I talk about them to normalize talking about them. I think people think they can’t share what they have been through because we tell them they have to keep it hidden. I don’t feel this is right. We should share. We should be honest. We should support each other fully.
I also wish that people knew I haven’t been given the opportunity to read a lot of books that maybe are the norm for some of the other book bloggers. Because of the situations that I have touched upon I haven’t had “good reading years” because of that. I feel like I am at the starting of the reading race and the rest of the book bloggers are at the finish line drinking water. So it is sometimes harder for me to do some of these tags because I haven’t gotten the opportunity to read as much as others. I also have memory issues, so sometimes I can’t even recall who was in what fully. Be patient with me and don’t assume just because book X was popular that I read it. I probably haven’t. Also I will always find the good in a book, even if it something I don’t enjoy because of this. I haven’t gotten to read everything, so I try to find out who would enjoy it. It feels better to me.
5. What is your favorite type of character in a book?
I love the characters that overcome something. The character that has survive through something that is horrible. The characters like Precious from “Push” or even Katniss from “The Hunger Games.” I love strong female characters deeply.
6. What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas is my favorite holiday. It isn’t the giving or receiving of presents. It is the spirit of the holiday for me. It feels like the most truly beautiful time of the year because humanity seems to return to society. We start to care about each other again, for some reason. We start to want to make sure our fellow man is doing fine. This is why I love this time of the year. I love this holiday. I love every single thing about it.
7. What is your favorite tv show?
It is a toss-up between “The Golden Girls’ and “Steven Universe” for sure. I can rewatch episodes of these two shows over and over again. Another show that is starting to catch up with these is, for some reason, “We Bare Bears” I love to death! “The Golden Girls”, however, will probably never be truly dethroned from being in a toss-up with some other show of the moment.
8. What is your pet peeve?
People who correct grammar. It makes me mad. You can keep people out of an important conversation because you want them to follow a certain rule of grammar. The reality is that people that have been in low-income brackets and categories often do not understand all aspects of grammar and they are excluded. Excluding them from important conversations never allows them to have representation in important aspects of society that directly influences their lives. It is my biggest pet peeve. Don’t hold others back in any regards, so if you want to correct someone in an important conversation by making fun of their grammar expect me to school you or at the very least tell you to shush your mouth.
9. What author would you like to meet someday?
For many years I wanted to meet Maya Angelou. I would say now I would love to meet Alice Walker of “The Color Purple” fame. I wouldn’t know what to say to her though, but I have a profound amount of respect and admiration for this woman. I think she has helped greatly push African-American conversations into the spotlight, which I think is vital in our society. I appreciate her and admire her so profoundly that I would probably become speechless in front of her.
10. If you could play any Disney character in a live remake, who would you play?
I would love to have played any of the three faeries in “Maleficent” when it was made. The reason is because I feel like I am a helper and I think those characters represent truly the helpers within society. They represent that person that wants to do as much good in society as possible, which i feel is truly me and all that I try to encompass.
11. Do you plan posts ahead of time?
I try to plan out my week when possible, but not more than a week. I like it to be a little more open and how I feel at the particular moment in my life. It feels better that way for me. If you do blogging though please do what you want to do. If you need to schedule out a month DO IT! Want to do it the day of: DO IT! Do what works for you and don’t ever let anyone tell you to do otherwise.
Q1: Where would you like to travel to most in the world?
I have always wanted to travel to England at some point of my life. I don’t even care where it is there, but I felt like I should go there at least once in my life. I would also love to visit Ireland at some point, but I think the first one on my bucket list has to be England.
Q2: Are you a sweet or savoury person?
I actually like when an item has both. There is something about mixing the two that I think is fascinating. I would say lately though I would lean more towards the savoury side of the equation because I think I rather did myself in on the sweets for a lifetime.
Q3: Who do you look up to in your life?
I look up to individuals that fight for the little man. The everyday heroes that go to work without needing media attention that help someone else achieve some level of happiness or success.
Q4: What inspires you to write?
Myself and the struggle that I have had in my life, which I have discussed previously on here. It inspires me every single day to write and blog. Also, this may sound cheesy, but people like Sarah, Fernanda, and Danielle that take the time to interact with me. I value people that value me in some way. It makes me happy to know that there are people that want to read what I have to say, regardless of how idiotic or stupid it may seem to others. Thank you for reading this, anyone that does. You are my inspiration forever!
Q5: What movies/TV shows do you recommend?
I know that I mentioned my favorite TV shows above, but recommendations are completely different. I highly recommend people to watch the show “Murder, She Wrote” to understand how to continually write a great character and plot. I also recommend watching “Charmed” and “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” to see how to write STRONG female characters. I would also recommend watching “We Bare Bears”, “Adventure Time”, and “Steven Universe” because not every single show has to have some deep reason outside of enjoyment to be watched!
As for movies, I would highly recommend that people watch the documentary “Red Without Blue” that shows twins where one is gay and the other is transgender. It is a very eye-opening film about these marginalized communities. I would also highly recommend the movie “The Other Sister” because it showcases so wonderfully that people with disabilities should be treated fairly within society, even in regards to romance. I would also recommend “Wonder Woman” to see a great female representation of a superhero. Lastly, I would recommend the film “Stepmom” because every once and awhile you need a sad sappy fest of a movie because not everything has to be totally fun either.
Q6: Where is your chosen place to write?
The place I like to write is in my office space in my house. It feels like my own little space, since it was created for that reason. This will change though shortly because I am moving with my partner into a house we are purchasing. I am sure that when this occurs it may be a new place that I feel is the best place for writing.
Q7: What does your dream house look like?
A Thomas Kinkade painting. I don’t want to be sued, so I am not posting it, but just put in that name, if I misspelled it I am sure it will correct it. Specifically look for any images he created with cottages in them.
Q8: What author would you love to collaborate with?
I answered this recently on my twitter feed actually. My answer remains the same, which was that I would love to write with Alice Walker of “The Color Purple” fame. I would love to write about the intersections between African-American experiences and LGBT experiences. I would also like to focus on how the two groups are not exclusive though and that all experiences are not the same within them simply because they are both marginalized populations.
Q9: If you could do over a day, what day would it be?
I am not the type to want to do over a day. We have a particular life for a reason. We get the days we are given, for a reason. If we did it over we may not be the people we are today, which I think in many cases would be a shame because we are all beautifully flawed creatures and the flaws that we have make us beautiful.
Q10: What is your best childhood memory?
I am old Sarah! Do you think I can recall the stone age? 😉 Okay, I am not that old, but seriously I don’t remember much of my childhood because it was forever ago. I will say that I remember things that I enjoyed like I loved playing with She-Ra and Barbie growing up and getting to do this with my sister. I would say most of my favorite and best childhood memories involve my sister, Denise, in some way. If they don’t involve her they involve my other non-biological sister that I was raised with Bekah. These two got me through my childhood! Love them both immensely!
Q11: What book character would you love to be like?
The most cliched answer I could ever give is about to occur, but it is true (even though usually I would say BE YOUR SELF, DON’T BE SOMEONE ELSE) I would want to be like Katniss from “The Hunger Games” book 1 Katniss though. The one that goes into the game for her sister. The one that is not scarred yet by the games. The one that isn’t worried about all the romance that will take place, but instead is focused on helping their sister. The one that doesn’t want to have to kill people, but also wants to survive to see those that she loves again. The one willing to be strong and manipulate a government that wants her dead. I would love to be that fierce. That strong. Katniss is very much the character I would love to be like.
I am not asking questions on this one, instead I say anyone that wants to do this tag should do one of the three above sets of questions because they will be fascinating to see the answers for on your blog! I know I have been on a bit of a hiatus, but I will be returning full-time on the week of the 17th, returning to my schedule of Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
